My Own Personal Leadership Philosophy
Personal Leadership Philosophy
A clear written statement that summarizes a person's basic
values, beliefs, and leadership principles is called a personal leadership
philosophy. It acts as a framework for one's leadership style, offering
direction and clarity for making decisions, managing teams, and pursuing
objectives. I would like to share 5 values and personality traits that are
a foundation of my personal leadership philosophy.
Honesty – Honesty builds credibility,
openness, and trust in any relationship. An
environment where team members feel comfortable sharing their ideas
and concerns is established by an honest leader. Effective leadership is based
on trust, and honesty is essential to establishing and preserving that trust. I
tend to have a strong relationship with anyone only if the other person is
honest. This value is so important to me that if I know that if I know that a
person is being dishonest, I immediately lose all my interest related to them. Honest
and open communication fosters trust, faith, and ethical behavior in team
members, ultimately creating a supportive and cooperative work environment.
Emotional
Intelligence – I am
a person who believes that a person cannot have a healthy relationship with
anyone, including himself, if he is not emotionally intelligent. A leader
directs and motivates his team in the right direction. He needs to be the most
understanding person for his team. Every person wants other people to
understand their emotions well. An ideal leader’s team members need to feel
comfortable and heard enough by him in order to be motivated to perform well.
People with high emotional intelligence tend to be respected more by other
people because they seem more sensible. I believe that I have high emotional
intelligence. I took personality tests during my college, and all of them had
an end result saying you have good emotional intelligence traits. If a leader
is not emotionally intelligent, he cannot have a successful team.
Coaching – Leaders need coaching because it
helps their team members reach their full potential by fostering their growth
and development. By means of skilled coaching, leaders can recognize the
personal expertise and weaknesses of each individual, customizing their
mentorship to encourage both individual and occupational growth. It is said
that if you leave a lion with dogs, even a lion will become a dog. And if you
leave a dog with the lions, being a dog he will become just like a lion. This
is a perfect example of what great coaching skills can do for your team. In the
end, coaching gives leaders the ability to develop a knowledgeable and driven
workforce, which propels organizational success.
Desire to
Lead – A leader
can’t be an effective leader if he doesn’t have the mere desire of being a
leader. It is said that leaders are born and can’t be made. The basic desire to
lead is important for a leader because a leader needs to feel motivated and
passionate to take on the responsibilities of their duties. Genuinely
passionate leaders are more likely to put in the time and effort to advance
their knowledge, stay up to date, and adjust to changing circumstances.
Spirituality
– For a leader,
spirituality is crucial because it offers a sense of direction and
significance that extends beyond monetary achievement, influencing moral
judgment. Resilience can be enhanced by spirituality, which enables leaders to
face difficulties with composure and inner strength. A leader who has a strong
spiritual basis will demonstrate traits like humility, empathy, and compassion,
which can promote a welcoming and positive workplace culture. In the end, it
can motivate a leader to seek greater good, resulting in a more satisfying and
goal-oriented style of leadership. I am a spiritual person. There have been
times when I feel like giving up, especially when a bunch of difficulties come
together all at once. At that point, nothing else but spiritual beliefs gave me
courage to face those situations with strength.
These are
only 5 out of many values, beliefs and behaviors that describe the kind of
leader I will be in my career. You can check my word cloud and have a better
understanding of my beliefs and values as a leader.
